Silverline

You’ve heard of Childline! But have you heard of Silverline?

When one of the team at Savvy found an advertisement for ‘Silverline’ we were surprised not one person in the office had heard of it before.

The Silver Line is the brain child of Esther Ranzen and is the only confidential, free helpline for people over the age of 55, across the UK open every day and night of the year.

A survey by the Campaign to End Loneliness found that 42% of older people reported that if they need help, they do not know where to turn. The aim of Silver Line is to prove to the older generation that they are valued, that they care about their well-being and they’re there to give them the information and friendship they need and deserve.

The help line offers:

  • Information, friendship and advice
  • Links callers to local groups and services
  • Offer regular friendship calls
  • Protects and supports older people who are suffering abuse and neglect

Silver Line Telephone Friends

If callers would like to be put in touch with a Silver Line Friend, they can enjoy a regular weekly friendship telephone call. Silver Line Friends are volunteers who have contacted The Silver Line because they enjoy talking to older people.

Silver Letters

Silver Letters are a regular exchange of correspondence between an older person and a Silver Line Friend. All postage is free for both parties, and sent via their mail centre, so costs are covered by The Silver Line.

Silver Circles

Silver Circles are facilitated group telephone calls where people with shared interests can discuss topics that interest them with a wider group. This is enjoyed by people who would like to speak with more than one person at a time.
